Bridgwater College joins forces with the Somerset Business Awards

Bridgwater College joined Somerset’s top businesses and business organisations to recognise and celebrate business success across the county at one of the most important and popular fixtures in Somerset’s business calendar – the Somerset Business Awards.

The awards ceremony, held at the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton, was attended by nearly 300 people and was a sell-out event. Bridgwater College assisted the organisers, the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses, by producing films of the 42 shortlisted entries. These were shown during the awards ceremony and the students provided a live feed of the event within the venue.

Rupert Cox, Chief Executive of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, explained, “We asked the students to produce a 10 second film of each of the nominees and 90 second films of the winners, as well as provide a live feed at the event. We are delighted with what the students were able to do in such a short time frame. The Somerset Business Awards aims to promote entrepreneurialism across the county and we hope that this partnership will encourage younger generations to take an interest in Somerset’s vibrant business community.”

Alan Hardcastle, media course programme manager at Bridgwater College, added, “We encourage our students to be proactive and entrepreneurial – some of the students who attended the awards were doing so to promote their own media production business! Making these films gives the students a great opportunity to network, and many go on to build successful freelance careers from this sort of introduction. It also helps local businesses to see what media opportunities are available and that they have access to media professionals locally, with the skills to promote their business.”
