Angel Place Shopping Centre Blogs

As Centre Manager of Angel Place Shopping Centre in the heart of Bridgwater I am passionate about the vitality and viability of the Town Centre and truly believe that after a few years of adversity and change we really are on the verge of positive growth, as is the town as a whole.

The “demise” of town centres up and down the country is well documented but it is really refreshing to say that Angel Place is 100% let with no empty shops and offers the 70,000 people on average that visit each week a fantastic range of not only national retail chains but also a local independent green grocer, news agent and toy shop and believe that the number of vacant units in the town centre is also expected to fall in the near future with strong interest being shown by a wide range of retailers.

One of the other parts of my role is also as one of the stakeholders of the BRI Town Team, a team that includes the District and Town councils as well as Bridgwater College, key letting agents, local businesses and of course the Bridgwater Industrialists. The work of the BRI Town team is focussed on improving the retail environment within the town centre by offering things like training courses, organising community events like the Snowflakes & Shopping Christmas light switch on and also advanced innovative technical tools such as the excellent Bridgwater Town Guide App for smartphones which really does bring the town centre to your pocket.

It is only right to accept that the town centre also has challenges such as the growth in internet shopping and the impending Tesco development on the Northgate site but it is also important to see that these challenges also represent a fantastic opportunity to showcase the fantastic customer service and product range available in the town and am sure that the confidence shown in Bridgwater by major national and international companies will surely benefit from the many current, and hopefully soon to commence, projects currently being discussed.

The Association of Bridgwater Industrialists includes so many of the main industrial and business leaders within the town and its surrounding areas and I am very proud to serve as President this year and hope that we can continue to work together to promote the successes of the town and share our experiences both in person and through the development of our digital services via this website and sources such as the LinkedIn business group.
